We are super excited to be celebrating 7 years in publishing online and in print content with a writing contest. Please find below submission guidelines.

The deadline for submissions to the RWC Essay Writing Contest is MAY 30^th 2023

The theme of the contest is Cultural Appreciation.
Please pick one from the following. Only one entry per person please.

Ages 7-12 (800 words)

1.What is unique about your culture? Share a tradition from your culture in detail.
2 Research a cultural celebration from a culture other than your own. Why is it celebrated? Have you celebrated it as well?

Ages 13-18 (1000 words)

1.Choose a cultural celebration from your own culture and explain how it has changed and evolved throughout history.
2. Write about the first time you remember meeting someone from a culture other than your own. Did the experience change you in any way? What did you learn?

Ages 19+ (1200 words)

1. What role does your culture play in your identity?
2. If you are a parent, what traditions from other cultures or current environment have you incorporated into your life. Why?
3. Poem appreciating an aspect of your culture

1. Stick to theme and length of submission
2. 1-2 pictures are encouraged to be submitted. Stockfree photos and family photos are acceptable.
3. A 2-4 sentence bio which clearly mentions Name (full name optional), Age, likes and dislikes. Be creative and have fun. Picture of writer encouraged but optional.
4. Typed content should be pasted into the email and NOT ATTACHED
5. Images to accompany should be attached to the email.

Everyone will be sent their submissions updated on June 1st.

Round 1 will last June 1^st  to June 7^th. The top 5 articles in each category with the most shares visible on the article link will move to round two.

Round 2 to be judged based on rubric with the following criteria:

Title of Essay
Creative thinking
Voice
Relevance to the theme
Organization
Voice
Readability
Word Count

* Any citations must be provided.  The essay should not have been published anywhere else. Plagiarized or AI generated content will be disqualified.

Winners announced June 9^th.

Winners get prizes as follows.

Cat 3 – $50 Gift Card

All those who submit essays can attend a FREE workshop on writing and publishing on June 11^th at 4 pm EST and ask their questions about the same.

Winners will be notified with their winning certificate by email, so please add raisingworldchildren@gmail.comto your address book. No questions about judgment will be entertained.
